New Robin Thicke – Give It 2 U ft. Kendrick Lemar

Lets be honest, we’re far from over Blurred Lines. So much so that its back at number 1 on this week’s Big Top 40. Thanks to the near suffocating heatwave, the naked ladies striding through the video and the fact that it’s a bloody good tune, we just can’t get enough. Despite having 6 albums and 13 singles to his name already, he is still a pretty fresh faced in the minds of most on this side of the pond, so the pressure is on to deliver something equally special from the Blurred Lines album.

On paper, his follow up ‘Give It 2 U’ has plenty of promise. There’s a decent buzz around Kendrick Lemar who provides a solid vocal and the hit machine Dr Luke has his paws all over it. It falls somewhere between a slightly irritating Justin Timberlake effort and the mess we’ve come to expect from will.i.am… yet it sort of works. It isn’t nearly as catchy nor feel good as Blurred Lines but making a direct comparison, after the monster reaction, radio play and chart success, is unfair.

Its good. Just… y’know… good. It doesn’t take itself too seriously and is filthy as hell. Have a listen…
