Change is in the air.
It’s been 2 ½ incredible years hosting the Breakfast show on The Hits Radio and the City 3 network – one of those career opportunities that doesn’t come around very often – the freedom to create something special, the way we want it to be, with people I can call friends, more than colleagues.
Friday morning will be the last Darryl Morris in the Morning on this radio station and from the beginning of September, we will launch on 97.4 Rock FM.
While I think I have twisted their arm into letting me have a weekend show on The Hits Network, it gives me no pleasure to move away from this exceptional team of people and the decision was considerably harder than some may imagine – but the chance to take this show we have built to one of the most iconic radio stations in the country, a station I grew up with, was too great to pass on.
If I’m honest, not a massive amount will change. Posh Producer Sam is coming along for the ride. We have worked hard over the last 2 years to build this show and, as we still have plenty of work left to do, I couldn’t imagine doing it without him. The radio station is owned by the same company and has the same management (who have put a lot of faith in me for this move) and production teams, so it really should slot together nicely.
I should also mention, 97.4 Rock FM does not play rock and heavy metal; it’s a local reference and plays hit music – so no Metallica at 7am. I feel like I’m going to be explaining that a lot over the next few months.
Roll on September.
